I need not tell you what are the cool rocking features of 9.0 are. Yahoo Messenger's homepage does just that. Instead I'll tell you something interesting I noted. The earlier versions allowed you to write as much as you want to a friend who's on Mobile i.e. "I'm mobile". And the ones who were on sms i.e. "I'm SMS", messaging to them had restrictions on no. of characters which can be used & sent.Its SMS, so its obvious,no qualms.

Unfortunately, 9.0 seems to apply the character limit to the friends who are on mobile as well!

Well.. its a new version. Improving and adding new features is great. But removing some nice features?? Not good,eh?

P.S: For all those programming nerds out there, did you know 9.0 is actually a WPF application? Well, its not hard to figure out! ;)

Auto / Scheduled connection to Internet

Today I was thinking of this idea of scheduling a connection to broadband. Inititally I was searching for an auto-dialer or something. Sure they might be helpful. But then I thought of using BAT file for achieving this. Googled the thing and got a few nice examples. Then read about basic if-else and goto syntax and finally came up with the following solution:

echo Connecting..
:REDIAL
rasdial connectionname yourusername yourpassword
if ERRORLEVEL 678 GOTO :REDIAL
if ERRORLEVEL 0 GOTO :TATA

:TATA
echo Connected to internet..
exit

The script is simple*. Just replace the fields in Italics with your connection's name (the shortcut you generally see on the desktop or you can obtain it from "Control Panel > Network Connection" and here select your connections name under Broadband.)

Paste this script updated with your connection details in a notepad and save this file as "autodial.bat". Do not ignore the quotes, insure that you include them. Save this file anywhere you like.

Now finally, go to scheduled tasks and add this bat file to it specifying the time at which you want it to dial your connection.

*This errorcode 678 is the usual errorcode that is returned when the connection does not respond. And the IF-ELSE and GOTOs insure that it keeps connecting until a successful connection is made.

And the good news is now you don't have to go through the copy paste operation to download a video.You can directly download the video as mp4 ( not all videos are available as mp4, but most of them are ).Drag the following button to your Links bar (in Firefox, Safari) or right-clicking and adding it to your favorites (in Internet Explorer, Opera)

When you want to download a YouTube video, click on the bookmarklet and you should see a new option below the embeddable code as shown below :

Right-click and select "save link as" or "save target as" and enter a proper name for the video. Make sure to use the .mp4 extension when you enter the filename. Cool isn't it? :)

Everyone of us like to customize our cell phone right? We like to install new themes. Some people may also like to go a step further and create a theme! Here's a very useful tool that is very easy to use. Its called myThemeCreator. It supports Sony ericsson and Nokia series 40 themes creation.
